Although the crocheted bunny seems to have a very professional design, I must first state that it is made using basic crochet techniques. By the way, the cute bunny’s name is Kiwi. The bunny Kiwi is wearing a wonderful blue jumpsuit. The preparation of the toy’s costume and all other details are also explained in detail on the designer’s YouTube profile. So I don’t think you will have any difficulty making the toy.
Bunny Kiwi in Overalls Amigurumi Pattern
I had previously shared a very easy bunny pattern in this article, but I want to improve the content a little. Now, if you are ready, let’s start and crochet this cute bunny step by step.
Designer: amiimaker
In order to achieve the expected result, we will work not only on the recipe itself, but also on some tutorials.
The recipe as well as the tutorials will be released in 4 steps (one step per day) starting on March 21, 2021.
One Note!
I used Amigurumi Soft yarn for the body and Amigurumi yarn (normal) for the garment. Both were crocheted with the same hook (3.25 mm). The garment fit very tightly. But you can vary the yarns and hooks and see what works best considering the tension of your stitch!
The cool thing is to use what we have at home! That’s what I did.

Body
• Made from top to bottom
• Base color
Leave a long thread at the beginning. Make 12 ch. Close the circle with a slst, being careful not to twist it (photos below). In these chains we will make the sc of row 1.
1) make 1 sc in each base chain (12)
2) sc around (12)
3) (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat 6 times (18)
4) sc around (18)
5) (1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc) repeat 6 times (24)
6 and 7) sc around (24)
8) (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat 6 times (30)
9) sc around (30)
10) (2 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc) repeat 6 times (36)
11 to 23) sc around (36)
Now we will make the legs.
To make the legs, separate the stitches of the body as follows: 6 sc for the center space between the legs in the front and 6 sc for the center space between the legs in the back (see photos). Each leg will be made from 12 sc.
For the first leg, make 12 sc and mark the last stitch with a stitch marker. To make these 12 sc, you must make 6 sc in one part of the body and the other 6 sc in the other part (see video 2: legs – on IGTV, to understand how).
This is the first row of the first leg.
2 to 6) sc all around (12)
7) (2 sc, 1 dec) repeat 3 times (9)
8) (1 sc, 1 dec) repeat 3 times (6)
Close the first leg using the inverted magic ring method. Do not fasten off the yarn. We will use it for a seam at the end.
Stuff the body and the first leg well. There is a video on my IGTV (video 3: stuffing the Kiwi) where I show the stuffing process. Take care, stuffing every corner well.
For the second leg, start again by attaching the yarn to the body with a slst. Leave a long yarn at the beginning (40 cm). See the following photos. Make a chain and then make 12 sc and mark the last stitch with a stitch marker. This is the first row of the second leg.
Repeat rows 2 to 8 of the first leg. Before closing the leg, stuff it well. Close using the inverted magic ring method. Do not fasten off the yarn. Use the yarn left at the beginning of the second leg to close the center of the body (video 4: closing the body).
Pass the long yarn left at the beginning of the neck through the body, coming out between rows 6 and 7 (see photo below).
Head
• Made from the bottom up
• Base color
The head is made exactly like Amora’s.
1) 6 sc in the MR (6)
2) 6 inc (12)
3) (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat 6 times (18)
4) (1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc) repeat 6 times (24)
5) (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat 6 times (30)
6) (2 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc) repeat 6 times (36)
7) sc all around (36)
Now we’re going to join the head to the body (inset stitch). If you have any questions, I posted a video on my IGTV showing how to do it (video 5: attaching the head).
8) 24 sc, 6 sc (picking up the 6 remaining loops from the ch made on the neck – being careful to close the body, that is, picking up stitches from both sides of the neck), 6 sc (36)
9 to 16) sc all around (36)
With the yarn from the body finish (the one that was passed between rows 6 and 7) make a few stitches attaching the head (chin) to the body. Be careful to leave the head centered (I also show it in the video on IGTV – video 6: details of Kiwi 1). Fasten off the yarn.
Place the eyes between rows 11 and 12 with 8 stitches between them. Embroider the snout between rows 5 and 8 (see photos and video 7 – details of Kiwi 2). Embroider the eyebrows over the eyes and the cheeks below the eyes (see photos and video 7). Go back to crocheting the head normally.
17) (2 sc, 1 dec, 2 sc) repeat 6 times (30)
18) (3 sc, 1 dec) repeat 6 times (24)
19) sc all around (24)
Start stuffing the head. Continue stuffing until the end.
20) (1 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc) repeat 6 times (18)
21) (1 sc, 1 dec) repeat 6 times (12)
22) 6 dec (6)
Close the hole with the inverted magic ring method. Fasten off. Hide the yarn.
Clothing
• Clothing color
• Made from top to bottom (starting from the waist)
• If you want the clothing to be looser, use a larger needle (3.5 mm, for example)
Make 42 ch. Close the circle with a slst, being careful not to twist it (photos below)
1) Starting from the second ch, make a sc in each base ch (42)
2 to 12) sc all around (42)
Note: always try the clothing on your Kiwi. You may need to make more or fewer rows or even use a different size needle.
Make more stitches to find the side of the clothing (photos below).
Now we will make the legs. To make the legs, separate the stitches of the garment as follows: 6 sc for the central space between the legs in the front and 6 sc for the central space between the legs in the back. Each leg will be made from 15 sc.
For the first leg, make 15 sc (7 in the front and 8 in the back) and mark the last stitch with a stitch marker (see video 8: garment 1 – on my IGTV to understand how).
This is the first row of the first leg and the thirteenth row of the garment.
14 and 15) sc all around (15)
Make the invisible fasten off and now we will move on to the second leg.
For the second leg, start again by attaching the thread to the garment with a slst. Leave a long thread (40 cm).
Make 15 sc (8 in front and 7 in back) and mark the last stitch with a stitch marker. This is the first row of the second leg and the thirteenth row of the garment.
Repeat rows 14 and 15 of the first leg. Make the invisible fasten off. Close the middle of the garment with the long thread left at the beginning of the second leg (video 9: garment 2 – about fasten off and sewing). Hide and fasten off all the threads.
We will start the top of the garment. It will be made in back and forth rows (flat crochet).
Choose 12 sc from the center at the waist of the garment (see the following photos). Make 12 sc (1 sc in each strap – video 10: garment 3 – top). Make 1 ch and turn. Then make the following sequence of rows:
2) 1 dec, 8 sc, 1 dec, ch 1, turn (10)
3) 1 dec, 6 sc, 1 dec, ch 1, turn (8)
4) 1 dec, 4 sc, 1 dec, ch 1, turn (6)
5) 1 dec, 2 sc, 1 dec (4)
Do not fasten off. Continue crocheting, going around the entire piece (video 11 outfit: 4 – fasten off). Make 1 ch in each corner to make the curve. Fasten off and hide all the yarns.
Flowers
To decorate our bunny’s head, we’ll make some very simple flowers (I made 3). Using colored yarn, make 16 ch. From the second ch, go back and make 1 sc in each stitch (15).
Fasten off, leaving a long thread. Watch video 12 on IGTV to see how to roll and sew the flowers.
At this moment we have the following parts: a body with head, ears, arms, tail, clothes and flowers. Let’s start by dressing our bunny.
If you used the same crochet hook for the bunny and the clothes, you might have a little trouble dressing your Kiwi. But don’t worry, with a little adjustment, the clothes will fit! Pull hard, being careful not to ruin the outfit 🙂
With two pieces of yarn of the same color used to knit the jumpsuit (+/- 60 cm each), we will make the straps (video 13: assembling 1 the strap of the jumpsuit, on IGTV and photos below).
We will sew one leg to the other with the finishing thread left at the end of the legs (video 14: sewing the legs). The idea is to join the two legs together, to make your Kiwi look like a baby (optional).
Sew the arms to the sides of the body, between rows 4 and 5. Before finishing off the thread, attach the arm to the body at row 10 (photos below). The idea is for the arms to be close to the body. Finish off and hide all the threads.
Fold the ears in half (I join one side to the other with a few stitches) and sew them between rows 19 and 20 of the head (video 15).
Sew the tail to the outfit.
Using a piece of green thread, assemble the garland on Kiwi’s head and then tie the flowers (see video 16).
Sew two mini buttons to his outfit.
Make up the cheeks over the pink embroidery under the eyes. And make up the center of the nose!
