As you may know, I love sharing impressive amigurumi patterns. Today, I will introduce to you a keychain amigurumi pattern designed by thenickcole, inspired by a strawberry. To make the little bunny, you will need red or very dark pink, white, green, and yellow yarn. The fact that one of the ears is green might catch your eye, but if they were the same color, it wouldn’t look nearly as striking. Technology has evolved so much now that you can easily change the color of these toys with simple Photoshop or artificial intelligence applications.
Impressive Amigurumi Project: Bunny Keychain Pattern
For crocheting the amigurumi toy, the designer recommends using Ricorumi DK yarn. You will also need a 2.25mm crochet hook. Given its size, you’ll need 6mm safety eyes, which are quite large. Let’s get started!
Designer: thenickcole
Materials I used:
– 2.25 mm crochet hook
– Yarn Ricorumi DK in red (029), green (049), white (002) and yellow (006)
– Embroidery yarn in pink and yellow
– Safety eyes in 6 mm
– Scissors, needle, stitch marker
– Stuffing, pins
Abbreviations (US terms)
– sc – single crochet
– dc – double crochet
– MR – Magic Ring
– inc – increase
– dec – decrease
– ch – chain
– sl st – slip stitch
– BLO – back loops only
We start with the ears of the crochet bunny. One ear will be made in red and the other in green. We will crochet the ears for 10 rounds, and when attaching them to the bunny’s head, as shown in the photo, you need to fold them in half and sew them on.
Ears (one green, one red)
1) MR: 4 sc = 4
2) (sc, inc) repeat 2 times = 6
3) (sc, inc) repeat 3 times = 9
4) (sc, inc, sc) repeat 3 times = 12
5-10) 12 sc = 12 (6 rounds)
Now flatten the ear and crochet the sides together with 6 sc.
Fold the base and crochet together with 3 sc.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
The little arms of the bunny are made in 8 rounds. After a few rounds of increases, you can create the arms by decreasing. Red is recommended for the arms.
Arms (make 2, red)
1) MR: 6sc = 6
2) (sc, inc) repeat 3 times = 9
3-4) 9 sc = 9 (2 rounds)
5) (sc, dec) repeat 3 times = 6
6-8) 6 sc = 6 (3 rounds)
Flatten the arm and crochet the two sides together with 3 sc.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Are you ready to make the tiny tail? This tail will be made in 4 rounds, and there is no need to stuff it. However, if you want it to be a bit more durable, you can stuff it lightly.
Tail (green)
1) MR: 6 sc = 6
2) (sc, inc) repeat 3 times = 9
3) 9 sc = 9
4) (sc, dec) repeat 3 times = 6
Fasten off and leave a long tail for closing and sewing it onto the body.
The bunny’s legs are sewn to the body horizontally, which is an unusual design. Since these kinds of toys are often used as keychains, I think it’s a good design choice to prevent the toy from taking up too much space.
Feet (make 2, red)
1) MR: 6 sc = 6
2) inc x 6 = 12
3) 12 sc = 12
4) (sc, dec, sc) repeat 3 times = 9
5-6) 9 sc = 9 (2 rounds)
7) (sc, dec) repeat 3 times = 6
Fasten off and leave a long tail for closing the foot and sewing.
If you want to embroider the paws, it is best to do this before you close the foot. Use pink.
To make the strawberry flower, you will need yellow and white yarn, and you will also use the double crochet technique. It seems sufficient to make the yellow part of the flower with a magic ring.
Strawberry blossom
Start with yellow.
MR: 5 sc = 5
Change to white.
[sl st, ch 1, dc, ch 1, sl st] x 5
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Collar (green)
Chain 19, start in 2nd from hook:
(sc, ch 3, create a picot by starting in 2nd from hook: sl st, sc, then sc in next st of the beginning chain) x 9
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Finally, we will crochet the body of the bunny. This will take 15 rounds, and we will use increases and decreases to work through it step by step. When making the body, please don’t forget to stuff it. You can stuff it tightly. Afterward, you can assemble the parts of the toy and decorate it.
Body & Head (red)
1) MR: 6 sc = 6
2) inc x 6 = 12
3) (sc, inc) repeat 6 times = 18
4) (sc, inc, sc) repeat 6 times = 24
5) BLO(3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times = 30
6-8) 30 sc = 30 (3 rounds)
9) (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times = 24
10) 24 sc = 24
11) (sc, dec, sc) repeat 6 times = 18
12) 18 sc = 18
13) (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) repeat 3 times = 15
14-15) 15 sc = 15 (2 rounds)
Start stuffing the body.
Continue to crochet the head.
16) inc x 6 = 30
17) (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) repeat 6 times = 36
18-19) 36 sc = 36 (2 rounds)
20) 9 sc, dec x 3,5 sc, dec x 3, 10 sc = 30
21-23) 30 sc = 30 (3 rounds)
Insert safety eyes between rounds 20 and 21 above the decreases, with 5 stitches in between.
24) (3 sc, dec) repeat 6 times = 24
25) (sc, dec, sc) repeat 6 times = 18
Stuff the head and work the cheeks out well.
26) (sc, dec) repeat 6 times = 12
27) dec x 6 = 6
Fasten off and leave a long tail for closing the head. Finish stuffing.
With yellow, embroider the nose over round 19 and some seeds on the belly.
Sew the ears to the head over rounds 26 and 27.
Sew the arms onto the side of the body on round 13.
Sew the collar onto the neck.
Sew the blossom next to one ear.
Sew the feet onto the body on rounds 5 and 6, so that you still can bend the upper part of the foot a bit forward.
Congratulations! Your Strawberry Bunny is now finished!
