Puffy the White Duck for Beginners Amigurumi Pattern (2)

Today, I would like to share a duck amigurumi pattern that we can call a beginner-level project. Since the amigurumi toy is made with thick yarn, it might look a bit roughly made, but actually, the toy has a very detailed and instructive pattern. There are a few points you should pay attention to when making the amigurumi toy. The first of these is that you will be using the bobble stitch technique when making the legs of the toy. If you don’t know how to do this, you will need to learn it first. It’s actually a simple process, and you can learn it in a few minutes.

Puffy the White Duck Crochet Pattern Step by Step

Let’s talk a bit about the materials that will be used while making the white crochet duck. Since the duck is not very large in size, using 8mm safety eyes will be sufficient. To make the amigurumi duck, it is recommended to use a 5mm crochet hook. Now, if you’re ready, let’s take a look at the details of the pattern.

Designer: Hannah Ratliff

Materials:

Chunky yarn, white and orange
Embroidery needle, black thread or yarn
5 mm hook
Scissors

Body and Head:

Starting point is head. Begin in white.
The duck is one piece from top to bottom, starting at the head and working down to the body.

Head

Round 1: Magic ring sc 6 (6)
Round 2: inc 6 around (12)
Round 3: *sc, inc* x6 around (18)
Round 4-5 (2 rounds): sc 18 around (18)
At this point, fasten your safety eyes between rounds four and five, between stitches 5-6, and stitches 11-12. They should be spaced about four stitches apart.

Round 6: *sc, dec* x6 around (12)
Stuff head firmly
Round 7: *dec, sc* x4 around (8)

The head is now finished. Now you will work the body, which is worked entirely in halfdouble stitches.
Working here on all in hdc, do as follows:

Body:

Round 8: inc 2, hdc 3, inc 2, hdc (12)
Round 9: hdc 2, inc 2, hdc 4, inc 2, hdc 2 (16)
Round 10: inc, *hdc 4, inc 2*x2, hdc 3 (21)
Round 11: hdc 21 around (21)

Round 12: Dec 2, hdc 3, dec 3, hdc 6, dec (15)
Round 13: hdc 15 around (15)
Slp-st, fastest off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Fill the body with a small amount of beans, pinch the opening into a rectangle, then
whipstitch in BLO to close. Weave in end.

If you find that the corners bunch up slightly when sewing the hole closed, don’t be
bothered, it will make your duck have cute little legs when you sew on the feet!

Beak: Begin in orange.

Round 1: Ch 5, starting in the second ch from hook: inc, sc 3.
Continue around in the back ridges of the ch with: inc, sc 3 (10)

Round 2: sc 10 around (10)
Round 3: *dec, sc 3*x2 around (8)
Slp-st, fasten off leaving a tail for sewing. Stuffing is not necessary.
Pinch the opening into a rectangle, then whipstitch in BLO to close, leave the tail out to later sew the beak to the head.

Wings: Begin in white.

The wings are worked entirely in half-doubles.
Round 1: Magic ring hdc 6 (6)
Round 2: *inc, hdc* x3 around (9)
Round 3: *dec, hdc* x3 around (6)
Slp-st, fasten off leaving a long tail. No stuffing is necessary.
Weave the end in the BLO of each st around, pull tight to close and secure the end. Leave the end out to later sew the wings to the body.

Feet: Begin in orange.

When making the slip knot for the chain, leave a long tail for later sewing.
Row 1: ch 4, starting in the second ch from hook: sc 3, turn (3)
Row 2: ch 1, inc, sc, inc, turn (5)
Row 3: ch 1, *BBL, sc* x2, BBL (5)
Fasten off and weave in the end!

Duck assembly:

Beak:

Embroider two small nostrils onto the beak in black, about two stitches apart.
Pin the beak to the head between the eyes, then sew into place.

Wings:

Pin the wings horizontal to the body sides, one row under the head. When happy with the position, sew into place.

Feet:

Weave the tail through the back ridges of the beginning chain, then pull tight. This will give the foot more of a heel.
The feet can be sewn to the body in a variety of positions, such as with the toes (BBL stitches) facing forward, turned towards the body, or with the duck “sitting” on the heels, as I did. Sew them in whatever position you find cutest!

I hope you’ve enjoyed making your Duck Snuggler!
