Pochacco Crochet Dog Free PDF Pattern (2)

As far as I remember, Pochacco is one of the fictional characters in the Hello Kitty cartoon series. Of course, this is a dog and it looks very similar to hello kitty toys. Although the toy seems to be designed for Christmas, you can make it suitable for a different concept with simple color changes. You must have noticed that the crochet toys I have been sharing recently are quite small in size. This clearly shows us that they can be used as a keychain.

Pochacco Amigurumi Dog Crochet Pattern Step by Step

That’s why, like the Hello Kitty I shared before, you can use this toy as a keychain in the fall and it would be a great option. However, you need to make some parts of the keychain more durable. Especially its paws, eyes and nose seem very delicate. Without further ado, I leave you alone with the content of the amigurumi pattern. You can make an amigurumi toy step by step.

After crocheting the cute dog in different pieces, we need to assemble it. You need to fill some parts of the toy, but you should not fill some parts. Now let’s start by crocheting the head of the toy first. To make the head of the toy, start with a magic ring and increase for 4 rounds. After that, things start to change a bit. From this point on, carefully follow the instructions and crochet with attention up to round 13. After round 13, begin decreasing to finish the head of the toy.

R15: (1 sc, Dec) repeat 9 times, sc (19)
Start stuffing
R16: (1 sc, Dec) repeat 9 times, sc (13)
FO and leave a long tail to sew to the body later.

After crocheting Pochacco’s head and stuffing it as needed, we move on to the body. The body of the crochet keychain dog is made using white and red yarn. We’ll use white yarn for the first 8 rounds, and red yarn for the final 6 rounds. Don’t forget to stuff the body as you crochet. We’re making a standard body, so it shouldn’t be too tiring.

BODY:

Using white yarn:
R1: 8 sc in a MR (8)
R2: 8 inc (16)
R3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 8 times (24)
R4: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times (30)

FO and leave a tail

Most Pochacco plushies I’ve seen have very similar ears. We need to use black yarn for the ears. Although it might seem like a mismatched color at first, when you look at the overall photo, it turns out to be the perfect choice. We’ll crochet the ears in 10 rounds. For the first 3 rounds, we increase, and after that, we gradually decrease to shape them.

EARS (Make 2):

In black yarn:
R1: 6 sc in a MR (6)
R2: 6 inc (12)
R3: (2 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (16)
R4-5 (2 rounds): 16 sc (16)
R6: (2 sc, Dec) repeat 4 times (12)
R7: (1 sc, Dec) repeat 4 times (8)
R8: 8 sc (8)
R9: (2 sc, dec) repeat 2 times (6)
Start stuffing (lightly)
R10: 1 sc, Dec, 3 sc (5)
FO and leave a long tail to sew (pic 3)

Technically, calling it a “collar” might sound a bit odd for a dog—it would usually be called a “dog collar.” However, since this toy is more of a Pochacco *character* than a real dog, it’s probably more appropriate to call it a necklace. The necklace, made using the picot stitch technique, looks really nice and decorative.

NECKLACE:

In green yarn:
R1: Ch 35
From 2 stitch, (picot stitch) repeat 22 times
SLST into the first stitch (pic 4) and FO, leave a long tail to sew later (pic 5)

The mini Christmas hat is quite easy to make. Up to round 11, we’re mostly just increasing, and in some rounds, we simply crochet single crochets. These parts are clearly indicated in the pattern. The most impressive—but slightly tricky—part of the hat is in round 11. In this round, we create the white part of the hat, and once that’s done, the Christmas hat is complete.

CHRISTMAS HAT:

In red yarn
R1: 4 sc in a MR (4)
R2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 2 times (6)
R3: (2 sc, inc) repeat 2 times (8)
R4: (3 sc, inc) repeat 2 times (10)
R5: 10 sc (10)
R6: (4 sc, inc) repeat 2 times (12)
R7: (2 sc, inc) x 4 (16)
R8: (3 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (20)
R9: (4 sc, inc) repeat 4 times (24)
R10: 24 sc (24)
Colour change to white:
R11: [ch 1, (in the same stitch, sc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, sc), SLST) repeat 12 times
SLST into the first stitch and FO, long tail WHITE BELL ON THE HAT:
In white yarn, Ch 3
In furthest stitch from hook, BO and FO
Leaving a long tail to sew.

ASSEMBLY:

Sew the head to the body
Sew the arms between R13 and R14
Sew the legs to R7-R9
Sew the ears to R4-R6 (sew 1 ear down to the head to keep it facing down, pic 6)
Sew the white bell to the tip of the hat
Sew the hat at any position desired (recommended to sew more to the left)
Sew the collar to the neck

You need to make a few final touches to the toy. You will need to give the toy a facial expression and you can see how to do this in the diagram below. Also don’t forget to use felt on the lower part of the toy’s legs to make the paws stand out.

FELT DETAILS:

With black felt:
Cut the shape of 2 hearts, 8 small circles (glue to the feet)
Cut 2 ovals and 1 smaller oval
(Glue between R10- R11)

Congrats! Crochet Dog Pochacco is ready!
