Cake Roll Kitty Crochet Toy Free PDF Pattern (2)

Today I am with you with a very creative cat amigurumi design. Although the crocheted kitty is made with basic crochet techniques, the fact that it is holding a cake roll in its lap seems to have created a very different appearance. The size and appearance of the toy will vary depending on the materials and yarn type you will use when making the toy. Since the kitty you see in the photo is a test product, it differs from the original photo. In order to make the crocheted kitty as you see it, it will be enough to use a furry yarn. You can make the kitty’s eyes using yarn or you can also create them with felt.

Cake Roll Kitty Amigurumi Pattern Step by Step

Actually, I’ve seen test versions of the toy made with different types of yarn, and I really liked them. However, you need to pay attention to the thickness of the yarn to ensure the toy doesn’t end up smaller than intended. So, if you’re planning to make the toy with cotton yarn, this is something to keep in mind. As for the color choices, I’ll be going with white and pink.

While the toy doesn’t seem to have been originally designed as a keychain, the size of the cat makes it very suitable for that purpose. However, another important detail to consider is that the cat’s eyes need to be durable. For this reason, using felt may not be the best choice. Now, let’s take a look at the other details and decide whether or not to make the toy.

Although the cat amigurumi toy actually has an ordinary design, the cat stands out with the cake roll it holds in its lap, and this cake roll looks quite large compared to the size of the cat. Now we will first crochet this cake roll.

CAKE ROLL

CREAM (in white color))

R1: ch46. Start from the third ch from the hook and do 44dc (44)
R2: ch2, turn your work and do 44dc (44)
FO and leave a tail if you’re not using the glue.

SECOND LAYER OF THE ROLL (in brown color)

R1: ch50. Start from the third ch from the hook and do 48dc (48)
R2: ch2, turn your work and do 48dc (48)
FO and leave a tail if you’re not using the glue.

The cake roll is crocheted in 2 pieces and then combined. Please note that the cake roll has a cream and cake part. Then we can start making the kitty. First, we will crochet the cat’s head and fill the cat’s head during this process.

HEAD

In White color
R1: ch6. We’re gonna work on both sides of the ch here. Start from the second ch. 4sc, 3sc in one ch, 3sc, 2sc in last ch (12)
R2: 1inc, 4sc, 2inc, 4sc, 1inc (16)
R3: 1inc, 6sc, 2inc, 6sc, 1inc (20)
R4: sc around (20)
R5: 1sc, 3inc, 2sc, 3inc, 11sc (26)
R6: 1sc, 3dec, 2sc, 3dec, 11sc (20)
R7: 1dec, 6sc, 2dec, 6sc, 1 dec (16) (start stuffing)
R8: 1dec, 4sc, 2dec, 4sc, 1 dec (12)
R9: 6dec (6)
FO and close the hole. No need to leave a tail.

The cat amigurumi toy’s body and legs are crocheted together, but the colors of these parts are different. It is recommended that you crochet the legs of the toy with brown yarn, but the cat’s body is crocheted with white yarn. Of course, these color choices are completely up to you. I am just giving you the instructions.

LEGS + BODY

Start with Brown color
R1: 4sc in Mr (4)
R2: 4inc (8)
R3: In Blo, sc around (8) (stuff)
FO and make another leg but Do Not FO. Change the color to White on last stitch of R3 of second leg. Ch1 and connect to the first leg with a sc. This will count as the first stitch of R4.

R4: 3sc, 2inc, 3sc, 1sc in ch, 3sc, 2inc, 3sc, 1sc in ch (22)
R5: 4sc, 2inc, 9sc, 2inc, 5sc (26)
R6: sc around (26)
R7: 4sc, 2dec, 9sc, 2dec, 5sc (22)
R8: sc around (22) (start stuffing)
R9: 3sc, 2dec, 7sc, 2dec, 4sc (18)
R10: (sc, dec) repeat 6 times (12)
FO and leave a long tail to sew later.

If there is one part that you can easily make while making the toy, I think it is definitely the arms of the toy. Now let’s crochet these tiny arms and keep them ready to sew on the body.

ARMS *2

In White color
R1: 8sc in Mr (8)
R2-5: sc around (4 rounds) (8)
Stuff lightly and FO, leave a long tail to sew later

The crocheted kitty’s ears and legs look very similar, but don’t let that fool you. This similarity is only visual. Now we’ll crochet the toy’s ears and move on to the final piece, the tail.

EARS *2

In Brown color
R1: 4sc in Mr (4)
R2: (sc, inc) repeat 2 times (6)
R3: (2sc, inc) repeat 2 times (8)
R4: sc around (8)
Stuff lightly and FO, leave a long tail to sew later

The crochet cat has a very long tail compared to its body, and you can easily tell from the number of rounds. This tail is not visible in the photos, but it is crocheted in 9 rounds. I should also mention that the tip of the tail and the remaining part are different in color.

TAIL

Start with Brown
R1: 5sc in Mr (5)
R2: 5inc (10)
R3: sc around (10)
Change to White
R4: (sc, dec) repeat 3 times, sc (7)
R5-9: sc around (5 rounds) (7)
FO and leave a long tail to sew later.
Do not stuff it.

ASSEMBLY

Lay out the brown layer flat, spread glue onto it and stick on the white cream. Put glue onto the white cream and roll the two layers up.
If you’re not using the glue, then start rolling it up and sew it together as you go.

Use R10 of the body to sew together with R7-8 of the head.

Sew the arms onto the body between R8- R10.

Sew ears onto R2-4 of the head.
Fold the tail in half and sew it between R5-6 of the body.

Sew the body onto the roll, leaning the head on top of the roll as shown in the picture.
Sew the front of the arms to the roll, making it look like the cat is holding on to it.

Embroider the eyes on R4/R5, 3 stitches apart.
Embroider two whiskers 1 stitch apart from the eyes.
