Have you ever seen a dinosaur amigurumi keychain before? I’ve been making amigurumi and crochet keychains for many years, but I must admit this is the first time I’ve come across a free pattern that’s so detailed. The idea of a cute dinosaur hatching from a white egg has resulted in a truly wonderful project. The toy is generally made using a soft-textured yarn, and the brand Ricorumi has been used.
Dragon Hatching from Egg Amigurumi Pattern Step by Step
The recommended crochet hook size for making the dinosaur amigurumi toy is 3mm. This shows that the toy isn’t actually made with a very thick yarn. However, the fluffy texture comes from the type of yarn used. The crochet dinosaur is essentially made up of 6 pieces that come together. Lastly, you can sew a keyring onto the top of the toy’s head.
As for color choices, of course, you’re free to choose whatever you like, but dinosaur amigurumi toys are usually made in shades of green. However, in this particular design, the body is made to look like an eggshell, so you’ll need to use white yarn. The dinosaur’s claws are made using a much more vibrant shade of green, which makes them stand out. You can go with a similar color scheme if you like. My recommendation, especially for beginners, would be to stick with the designer’s original color choices.

We’ll start the dragon amigurumi toy by making the head. This piece is crocheted over 12 rounds, starting with a magic ring. You’ll increase stitches until Round 5, then single crochet from Rounds 6 to 10. After that, decrease for 2 rounds and stuff the piece as you go.

The muzzle is one of the most important parts that gives the dinosaur its character. We will crochet this small piece in just 3 rounds. Although it’s a small part, it’s recommended to lightly stuff it before sewing it onto the toy’s face.

The arms and feet of the toy require the use of the bobble stitch technique. This is how we’ll create our cute dinosaur’s claws. The bobble stitch begins in Round 3 of the arms. After that, you’ll decrease to shape the arms. Make sure to stuff the arms as you crochet them.

The feet of the toy have a similar structure to the arms, but since the number of single crochets differs, the size of the arms and feet will vary slightly. It’s recommended to stuff the feet while crocheting them.

One of the essential parts of the dinosaur amigurumi is a thick tail. As seen in the photo, we’ll create a small but chunky tail for our keychain amigurumi toy. Start with a magic ring and gradually increase. Don’t forget to stuff the tail!
