Amigurumi Red Frog Henry with Sunflower Hat

I would like to introduce you to a very cute frog amigurumi toy pattern designed by lostneedle.crochet. Although the amigurumi toy was originally made in green tones, I wanted to share this magnificent photo with you. I can honestly say that I really liked the idea of a red frog. Please also note that the crocheted toy has a hat in the shape of a sunflower.

You can make a few additions while making an amigurumi toy. Here you will learn how to make the toy’s hips more prominent. Now, if you are ready, let’s start making a crocheted frog amigurumi toy.

Materials

• 3 colors: main color: green (frog), yellow and brown (sunflower hat)
• Max. one skein of each color
• Crochet hook suitable for your yarn of choice (I used 5mm)
• Safety eyes (I used 14mm)
• Needle
• Stuffing/polyfill
• Stitch markers
• Scissors

R5-6: Sc around (32) (2 ROUNDS)
R7: 8inc, 8sc (TIP: place stitch marker in the middle of these 8 stitches to indicate the front of the head), 8inc, 8sc (48)
R8: 16sc, (1dec, 1sc) repeat 2 times, 1dec, 16sc, (1dec, 1sc) repeat 2 times, 1dec (42)
R9-10: Sc around (42) (2 ROUNDS)
R11: (18sc, 1dec) repeat 2 times, 2sc (40)
R12: (3sc, 1dec) repeat 8 times (32)
Start stuffing.
R13: Sc around (32)
R14: (2sc, 1dec) repeat 8 times (24)

I start stuffing here (R13). Make sure you stuff firmly and shape the cheeks.
FO, leave a long tail for sewing and close the hole by going through the front loops.

Start stuffing.

I start stuffing here (R14). Make sure you stuff firmly and that the bottom of the body stays flat.
FO and close hole, weave in ends. I like to pull the bbl stitches out with a needle after stuffing.

Fo and leave a tail for sewing.
Put the safety eyes (or embroider) in the middle and don’t or lightly stuff.

Optional (but CUTE!!):

Give Henry a little buttcrack :)).
Take a strand of main color yarn. Insert it (A), pull out where you want it to begin (B) and insert it where you want the buttcrack to end (C). Pull out your needle where you inserted it (A), pull tight and make a knot, hide ends in the body.

Sunflower Hat

Start with center color (brown)

R3: (1sc, 1inc) repeat 6 times (18)
CC to petal color (yellow)

Petals: FLO ONLY: 1slst, (ch4, slst in 2nd Loop from hook, 1sc, 1hdc, slst in next Stitch)x17
(the 2nd slst of the last petal is in the first slst of this round) DON’T FO

Straps: chain 30 and FO.
Insert hook on the other side and attach with slst, chain 30 and FO
Optional: sew hat onto head instead of straps
