It is a strange choice for me to include the dragon amigurumi toy in the category of animals, but I honestly couldn’t figure out how to categorize the dragon. As you know, dragons are among the types of animals that we can call imaginary or fictional. Today’s toy is a very cute design made using plush yarn.

But there is something I want to point out that is very important. The amigurumi toy you see in the photo is a test product. If you wish, you can visit the designer’s Instagram profile and see more test products of the toy. Now let’s make the toy together step by step.

Stuffing

The crochet dragon has a very soft texture and we will first crochet the arms and legs of this soft toy. The arms and legs of the toy have a symmetrical design but remember that these parts are not stuffed.
LEGS & ARMS make 4 (don’t stuff)

R2: inc x6 (12)
R3: 12sc (12)
R4: dec x6 (6)
Fold & 3sc across to close

Now it is suggested that we crochet the dragon’s ears. The ears of the toy are a bit like hippo ears, to be honest. Let’s crochet the ears. Then we will need to sew the ears onto the toy’s head.

R2: inc x3 (6)
R3: 6sc (6)

After crocheting the ears of the toy, we need to make the most important part of a dragon. You guessed it! Now we will crochet the wings of the dragon. It may be the only part that will be difficult for you while making the toy. You should be a little patient and crochet the wings of the dragon.

Place the ears on top of the head. Line up your next stitch with where we did 3sc closed on the ear. Hook through the first stitch on the ear, then through the next stitch in the head. Single crochet as normal. Continue this for the next stitch.

SEW THE LEGS & ARMS
The legs & arms are sewn on the sides of the “belly” of the dragon.
Sew the legs at the back of the body, angled slightly outwards. Make sure they are equally spaced apart from the tail
Sew the top of the arms in line with the row where the neck begins.
DRAGON SPINE
Crochet the dragon from the top of the head down to the tail using dark blue yarn. To crochet into the body, complete each stitch into a “row” along the back of the dragon.
Pull up a loop & chain 1, [ hdc, dc, hdc, slst]
Repeat the instructions in brackets until you reach the end of the tail. Fasten off & hide ends.
SEW ON THE WINGS
Make sure the spine of the wing is pointed down & sew half of one wing down on each side of the body. This allows you to angle the wings upward when you are done.
