Cute Giraffe Gosh amigurumi crochet free pattern

Amigurumi (pronounced “ah-mee-goo-roo-mee”) originated as a crochet art in Japan. The word amigurumi is a combination of the Japanese words “amu”, which means “to knit” and “nuigurumi”, which means a plush toy. Amigurumi designs became popular in the 1970s in Asia and spilled over into the US craft market in the later decades. In recent years, amigurumi has become one of the most popular crochet designs for both beginners and experienced crochet hookers.

Can a beginner create amigurumi designs?
As mentioned above, anyone can learn to make amigurumi. While it does help to have some basic crochet or crochet experience, it isn’t necessary to learn amigurumi techniques successfully. There are hundreds of manuals, videos and step-by-step patterns on the market for every skill level. In fact, almost all amigurumi start with the same starting stitches (see Magic Ring below) and cover the basic crocheting techniques: increase and decrease. If you master these points, you can create hundreds of different amigurumi designs.
